Persona: In Michigan, 17 years of age.
Blade: 4 Inches, a simple hunting knife. Nothing special. It even has a fake wooden handle, originally meant as a training knife for kids hunting deer.

My question is it is legal for me to carry one? Lately, teenage boys living in my town, have been targeting random people and beating them up in large groups (gangs, I suppose.) Three of my friends were targeted, one beaten up 5 times in one night (hurt really bad, I was threatened twice that night as well, long story short,) and the other was able to ride away from the 20-or so boys who was ganging up on him, on his bike. As for the third, my boyfriend, he’s the target as of right now. He is quiet tall, and has a good punch, so he can take care of himself. However, sometimes when we walk around town, those same kiddies come and stalk us. My boyfriend is afraid I’ll get hurt, is it legal for me to carry this hunting Knife for personal protection, (plus I drive out a lot in the country so a knife would be handy if I end up in a jam with all the deer everywhere.)

*** Note: I have NO intent whatsoever to harm/kill someone! However, if I am attacked, I may use this as an intimidation, so we can run away. No way can a couple of us take on a class full of angry kids.
*** And: I have no money to buy any fancy pocket knives, so if this is illegal, I am completely out of luck. I don’t want to get hurt, since I had a few fists swung at me, when I wasn’t even involved in anything.
It is a clip point. The tip is pretty short, but the curve has nothing to it, flat like the top. It’s not really sharp, just old from when I was a child. Never used once. Mostly for lookings on the shelf. =P
It has a snap-button sheath.

Of course not. This is the USA, not France.
I frequently carry a knife, and I have for many years. I even have carried it aboard airplanes, due to having it in my purse, lol. I try not to do that.
And I would not hesitate to kill someone who tried to harm me.
However, if you want to deter someone, get pepper spray instead, it is less likely to be grabbed out of your hand and used against you when you hesitate.

And what do you really think you are going to do with this knife?

Shank them? Do you REALLY think pointing a shank at them is gonna defuse the situation?

they will just over power you and use it against you. Its not worth it, trust me

It is probably ok. One that may not is the switchblade knife. I prefer the law passed in Texas where non-felons can apply for a right to carry permit that allows them to carry a firearm. As to your comment on not wanting to hurt anyone.. most of us don’t, but we are suppose to have a right not to fear and to be able to protect ourselves from those who attack us. Do you remember the Charles Browson movies? We have a right to use any means to protect our family from attackers, being careful that no innocent person is harmed. Earl
