Once in awhile I will get asked about the Leather wrapped handle I have done for years now. Most who love the look want to to know more about it. Leather has been used for many years for wrapping many different things. Native Americans as well as early settlers used leather in many diferent ways. Copper, brass wire, trade cloth, rawhide as well, were also used for wrapping more than knives, these things were also used for gun stocks, drums, axe and tomahawk handles, bags, clothing, cases, and the list goes on.
My use of leather on handles has traditional roots. The leather can make for a better grip, and if protected will last for years. The stag crown knife shown below the video link was tight stitched. The handle was finished off below the leather wrap so someday if you wanted to remove the leather. All is good.
One of the Bush Knives I make has a tight leather wrapped handle that is sealed.
you can have a virtual video look at that one here
