EDRIK asked:

i have a 20 gallon freshwater aquarium. i am switching to a sand bottom. Do i need bottom feeders like i do with gravel? i know that cory cats and loaches are good for cleaning the bottom but do they have anything to eat if it is a sand bottom?

Also what fish like to play in the sand?

Do black ghost knifes and Kuhli loaches do good with a sand bottom?

Thanks for the help.

bottomfeeders help though they aren’t necessary. black ghost knives are fine with a sand bottom. loaches im not sure

You don’t need a bottom feeder if you have a filter. Cory cats and loaches will eat whatever the filter doesn’t get. I know that bottom feeders like sand and that ghost fish don’t really care what the bottom is. I’m not sure about Kuhli though.

Bottom feeders are not essential but handy to have, I had a catfish in a tropical fish tank and he lasted the longest ate the least and cleaned all day long! so a bottom-feeder would be helpful for you even though you have sand.
