My family had a dog growing up who we never thought would hurt a fly. she was so gentle and friendly and couldn’t care less when kids would just smother her. one night when my dad was walking her, a group of men tried to mug him with a knife and she attacked them. we were greatful but never would have imagined.
I also had a dog that would jump up and look at our fish tank when and only when the fish had just given birth.

what about you?

My sister’s puppy once got out his toy, played with it for a bit, and ran right back to the toy box and put it back! She didn’t even train him to do so!

Yes! Dogs are amazing. I had one male that could figure out how to open anything, including our gate in the backyard. Not all that rare, but when we’d have kids and people out in our front yard, he’d open the gate, but just sit down next to it while our other dogs ran out to play with us. He waited to see if we’d corral them back into the yard or not. If we let them stay, then he’d come out too. If they got sent back, he’d sit there with the most innocent look on his face. Priceless!

Once time when my rotweiller mix was a puppy, I didn’t realize she was following me so closely, and I accidentally closed the door on her. I felt so bad, and she was limping. But I noticed, after an hour or so, that she was rough and tumble when playing with our other dog, and I didn’t see her limp when I saw her out of the corner of my eye or she didn’t know I was looking at her. She was only limping when she knew I was watching her! It made me laugh so hard … she just wanted the extra attention, so I didn’t feel so bad anymore. I thought it was so cute that she got plenty of extra attention, so she played the game for a couple of weeks!

Two of my pet stories that really surprised me, though, were about cats. When I was young, I was an only child and I had a seperate room for my toys. I had my stuffed animals in a pile in this room. We had a cat that preferred green stuffed animals to play with – I had a stuffed frog and a glo-worm that were his favorites. He would come and get one of them at a time, take them to the living room to play, then always make sure they were back in the pile when he was finished!

As an adult, we had a pair of cats, and I made it a habit when I went to bed at night to tell the cats I was going to bed. Mainly, I just wanted them to hear my voice and know where I was going, because one of the cats, if sleeping when I went to bed, would run through the house howling, searching for us and wake us up. Well, the other cat soon caught on to what was going on, so when I came in and said I was going to bed, as I was on my way, so they could hear my voice, he would run and jump up on the bed. Then, if I had to go to the restroom or anything before bed, he’d howl at me in a mad tone, like I was lying to him because I didn’t come directly to bed!

I had a box of peanuts on the coffetable and my great dane looked at me for permission (she does not get food off plates) and I told her yes thinking she wouldn’t like them. Well, she loved them and started flipping them up, catching them in her mouth and opening the shells, spitting out the shells, and eating the peanuts.

When I would let my grand kids go outside in our fenced yard I would tell our old dog to watch out for the kids and one day I heard my daughter yelling that Jade wouldn’t let her in the gate So I yelled at her and she moved and as soon as my daughter came in Jade planted her body in front of the gate again We finally figured out that she was guarding the yard and wouldn’t let anyone in or the little ones out and she would not move until I told her it was OK

I once found a baby chihuahua and brought him home where I ;ived with my parents and my toddler lil sister. My chihuahua, whose name was Barney, found out quickly where the box of stuffed animals were as he watched as lil sis would play with them in the box. One day he got in the box and started to sort out the animals as if he were searching for the right one lol. He took out this little yellow bear and brought in the livingroom and he threw it on the rug.(Psst…evryone is in livingroom watching tv). He started to growl at the bear and then started to shake the bear at the scruff of the neck lol. He then flung the bear back on the floor to study it(We were curious of whats he gonna do now). He then decided to mount the little bear and started pumping it to beat hell lol. When he was done, he took the yellow bear back to the box and came back in the livingroom and laid down on the rug with his face on his front paws as he was wagging his tail lol.My parents couldnt stop laughing. He knew we were watching I guess. But that was his fav stuffed toy until mom got disgusted and threw the bear in the trash lolol.
